Football

The fixture list for Man Utd NZ is on the West Ak Red link

The group stages of the World Cup are gone and now its win or go home, West Germany are thru with a controlled display over the Swedes and Argentina have just slipped past Mexico 2-1 in extra time. A wrap of the last group games showed Spain to be in good form ( and for that they get France !!!! in the next game ), Italy playing great football (though the problems back home might haunt them soon), Holland playing a very uncreative game and Brazil with all the old style were just awesome against Japan.

The hard luck stories, definitely Japan who played 82 minutes of beautiful football and then let the loss destroy their confidence for the next two games, South Korea (feeling for you, In Taek) and I thought the Czechs played some great football but also never recovered from a bad first game.

My watches for the next couple of days, are France having now got thru to lift their game against Spain and Holland to turn it up against Portugal, but we shall see the predictions and wallet have been pretty sad so far.

Enjoy the beautiful game, people.

World Cup 4

Well I slept right thru the England match against Sweden, probably a good thing, though there was a flutter when I heard on the news that an England striker was out with a leg injury, but thankfully it wasn't our man. Saw Portugal vs Mexico last night that was pretty good and then slept thru Argentina vs Holland, which was also probably lucky. Hope you all are enjoying the soccer so far, and if it is stimulating that right foot, come down to Onepoto Domain, Northcote this Sunday and have a run around the field as Man Utd NZ take on the Northcote Presidents, 11 am kick-off. So have brekky watching Germany play Sweden and come on down. ALL WELCOME

World Cup 3

Another game down, but hardly convincing and if Crouch is one of the 5 best strikers in England then you really are in trouble. Makes for an interesting game with Ecuador and West Germany, hmmm the Germans in the 2nd round doesn't sound good. I did like Lennon and thought Owen was unlucky to get subbed.
Its so weird watching Cole, Owen, Lampard, Gerrard and actually wanting them to score, after you spent all season wishing they would break a leg !

I also liked the look of Japan, very skilful.

World Cup 2

Well the first hurdle for the England team has passed and it seems the pubs are full of fans and raring to go. If you dropped in to one on the weekend like Paula, let us know how it went (message board) and maybe we can get a United party together.

Gooooo Japan.

Trivia and the World Cup

at the Speakers last night, the brave United team went under by just one point. Music once more proved the killing field, just like last week, with only 3 points to show for having to listen to that banal rubbish.

Well people the World Cup is upon us, and while I wish the English fans well, I will be supporting Croatia, Brazil and Japan in the group stages.
