A spanking hot day in Henderson Valley for the Manchester United NZ vs Welsh Dragons game, this Sunday arvo.
Wayyyyyyyy to hot to be playing football, but such is life ..
We had a fantastic side on the line, but it wasn’t to be, as Steve (ACL), Walter (leg), Gareth (rolled ankle) and Cardiff (allegiance) put us back a tad.
Nevertheless with Mark in goal, Riccardo, Phil, Marc and young Hayden in defence, Jan, KJ, James, Mike in the middle and goal scoring maestros, Rob and Ron up front, we were still looking good.
But circumstances can lie, as a couple of VERY competent Welsh strikers took us to the sword and scored twice within ten minutes. The game was played in 3 thirty minute spells and the first hour was all one way with the Welsh scoring four goals in that time, a couple of them were dubious but that’s football.
Then they started to tire and the Red machine kicked in, with Rob pushing a thru ball to Ron who executed perfectly.
Then Hayden sent in a beautiful corner to Ron for his second.
Well, the tide had well and truly changed and next minute it was Stevie Mellor on the sideline who passed along the touchline to Hayden, who flicked it on to Rob, who squared it perfectly to Ron and he finished it precisely. A well deserved hat-trick in the space of twenty minutes.
But we weren’t finished yet and in spectacular Man United fashion, the ball was driven down the pitch to Hayden, who was on fire all match, and he expertly chipped the keeper to make it four all.
Absolutely fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
