Manchester United NZ played the East Coast Bays old boys on Sunday afternoon.
Having blown off the cobwebs since we last played them and with us one player short it was a fast and frantic opening ten minutes, when incredibly we had the best opportunity to score, with a perfect thru ball to Wes, who just pushed it wide when one on one with the keeper.
They passed the ball around like they always do and with the extra man, we were hard pressed to keep up, but we keep trying and Wes had another chance before they exploded down field and scored a cracking goal. The heads dropped a little as we saw all that hard work disappearing and like lightening they had scored another goal. The half time whistle went and though a bit deflated, we felt we had played well.
The second half kicked off and instantly the Red Machine was back on attack and sure enough it wasn’t long before a chance appeared. After some excellent play down the pitch, Wes got a clear shot and hit a pearler in to the back of the Bays net. The score was 1-2 and we were pumped, but then a shocking clearance led to an easy East Coast Bays goal. This seemed to stump us a bit and we played some great football but just lacked those final passes and in the end they overwhelmed us with three fantastic goals.
A good game played in great spirit, as always with the ECB team and we retired to the bar beaten, but not defeated.
