Scholesy

Paul Scholes celebrates scoring against Barcelona, in 2008

One of the greatest players to wear the Red Shirt has finally hung up his boots. I've watched him progress from being a young boy to the consummate footballer he became. Paul lived in the same area as me and in the early 90's my brother Chris pointed him out as being on United's books. I made a note to watch his progress and what an exciting prospect he was.

He enjoyed a night out with the boys and I saw him frequently with Nicky Butt in the local town where we lived and although I was tempted to tell him to go home I didn't. When he made the reserves he sustained an injury at Blackpool and a few days later I met him in the toilets of The Albion (a local hostelry) and questioned him about the injury. I got the same reaction as the press have throughout his career, which was short and to the point, he said, "Broke me nose", and that was it. The fact is Paul Scholes did all his talking on the pitch and lets all be thankful that he did.
