From Mt Roskill to Manchester
Fifteen goals in 24 hours !!!
While Man Utd NZ failed to reach the final of Asian NY tourney for the first time, it was a pulsating match with ten goals.
We quickly took the lead with a clinical finish from last years Player of the Year, Mike Tull. Then we added a second and were looking good for the first half, but tired legs caught up to us and the Koreans got two back just before the halftime whistle. It was a bit of a letdown, but the spirit was still good. Into the second and we again took an early lead when Ron was hacked down in the penalty box and Gareth smashed the penalty thru the Korean net. Our lack of conditioning started catching us up and the Koreans scored a couple of great goals and one soft one. Then we launched a determined spell of attacking and got another goal, after intense pressure the ball was laid back to Phil and he tucked it away.
And so it ended four-six, a good match played in a great spirit and hopefully next week will be more of the same with a different result.
Thanks again to Ron, Pat, Dave and the undeniable Walter from Metro for the extra assistance. And to all our lads for the pipeopener ...
