Cars hiss by my window .....

The car rolled out of the driveway, the throb of the German 5 pot, a sound to behold, gliding on to the motorway the Audi automatic blew away the jappers surrounding him, a slick low lying aerodynamic rocket compared to his brutish black brother quattro.

We entered the East Coast Bays stadium and instantly meet the welcoming smiles of Jan and Phil and some of the Westie youngsters … a good afternoon was indeed coming.

But the Black and whites were also ready, having raised their largest starting squad for twenty years, to make sure there was no embarrassment like last year.

We took the field, Jan in goal, Nick, Phil, ECB Mac and Shaw in defence, Karl, KJ, Mike, Lance in the middle with Marc and Joseph up front.

Instantly the Bays attacked, sensing a weakness, but they were repelled and it was young Joseph (KJ's boy) who had the first crack at goal with a sensational shot from 40 out, just going a few inches over the bar. The black and whites again attacked, but the Reds held strong, they then fluked an opener, but United attacked back straight away and KJ hit a beauty from outside the box to equal the score. The game was end to end for a while and by the close of the first half, we were unlucky to be two more goals down.

Into the second and the Bays got lucky again when our keeper couldn't get down to a shot, but after that it was all RED, with Skip (just arrived) and Karl and Joseph ripping apart the old boys, but they couldn't stick them home, missing at least six shots, all by less than a couple of feet. The Bays team was starting to feel their age and the RED Machine was relentless, but we couldn't finish our fantastic breaks and in the end, the Magpies got a deserved win.

A good pipe opener and even after losing Gareth, Mikey, Wes and probably young Hayden for the season, we are still a team to be reckoned with.
