Cristiano Ronaldo returned to his old club Sporting Lisbon and scored the winner to ensure Manchester United made a winning start to their latest Champions League campaign. Sporting clearly had the best of the first half, with no clear chances for Manchester United. Meanwhile at the other end, Edwin Van de Sar kept United in the game with a series of great saves.

In to the second half and it was the irrepressible Ronaldo who gave United the lead on the hour. Wes Brown sent a great cross into the box and Ronaldo pounced, scoring a classic poachers goal.

So another game where we didn’t play that well, but persevered and got the points.
